If you’ve been diagnosed with a permanent disability, you may be eligible for a wide range of federal and state benefits. These benefits are designed to provide financial support, medical coverage, and other assistance to help you maintain your quality of life. Understanding which benefits apply to your situation can make a significant difference in your long-term financial stability and care.

Find out if you qualify for SSDI benefits. Pre-qualify in 60 seconds for up to $4,018 per month and 12 months back pay.

Please answer a few questions to help us determine your eligibility.

Social Security Disability Benefits (SSDI and SSI)

SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance):

This is available if you’ve worked and paid into Social Security. The amount you receive is based on your work history. SSDI also provides access to Medicare after a two-year waiting period.

SSI (Supplemental Security Income):

This is a needs-based program for those with limited income and assets. You don’t need to have worked to qualify. It provides monthly cash payments and immediate access to Medicaid in most states.

Medicare and Medicaid
  • Medicare: If you receive SSDI, you become eligible for Medicare after 24 months. This includes hospital insurance (Part A), medical insurance (Part B), and optional prescription coverage (Part D).
  • Medicaid: If you qualify for SSI, you may be automatically enrolled in Medicaid, which provides comprehensive healthcare coverage, often including services not covered by Medicare.

State Disability Benefits (Where Available)

Some states offer additional disability programs that provide short-term or supplemental financial support. Eligibility and payment amounts vary by state, so check with your state’s Department of Health and Human Services or disability office.

VA Disability Benefits (for Veterans)

If you’re a veteran with a service-connected disability, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers tax-free monthly compensation, healthcare services, and housing assistance based on your disability rating.

Long-Term Disability Insurance (If Applicable)

If you had a private long-term disability (LTD) insurance policy through an employer or purchased privately, it may provide monthly income to supplement SSDI or SSI. Policies differ, so review your plan documents or consult your insurer.

Housing and Food Assistance
  • Section 8 or subsidized housing programs may be available for those on a fixed disability income.
  • SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) offers monthly food assistance for eligible individuals and families.
  • Utility bill discounts, transportation vouchers, and other local support programs may also be available.

Tax Benefits

People with permanent disabilities may qualify for special tax deductions and credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. You may also be able to deduct medical expenses exceeding a certain threshold.

Education and Vocational Rehabilitation Services

You may qualify for vocational rehabilitation programs that help you retrain, work part-time, or transition into new employment that accommodates your condition. There are also tuition waivers and financial aid options for individuals with disabilities.
